Make a Vase influenced by Linglong Rice Grain Ware

Linglong Rice grain pottery is an old ceramic method from China's Ming (1369-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911/12). The wall of an object is first pierced through with a sharp tool. After it is bisque fired  the holes are filled with glaze which melts into the hole creating a small translucent window.

• research: Ling Long Yan Pottery. Where was it invented and when? Who invented it and why? Write a half page. What makes it unique?
• Sketch your vase and cut out holes.
• Make a test square slab with pierced designs.
• Before starting your large vase make a test mini vase with your pierced slab design.

Holiday Bowl from Paper Bowl Mold

• Complete a sketch
• Upload your sketch to Artsonia
• materials you need: circle clay, paper bowl, knife and sponge. 
• Use your pencils for drawing in the clay.
• Press clay into paper bowl mold.
• Cut off extra clay so the top of the clay bowl is exactly as high as the paper bowl. 
• Smooth your bowl with a damp sponge.
• Draw your design with a PENCIL.
• *Remember the lip of the bowl needs to be smooth and not cracked as that is what will hold your bowl together.
• Last put your name and period on the inside of the clay bowl.

• Complete your tessellation in your sketchbook with one shape in color.
• Turn that shape into a person, place or thing.
• Role your second tile on the slab roller. 
• Slab should be thick.
• Trace your tessellation design on the clay slab.
• This time instead of adding clay you are carving away your tessellation design.

Research Ming Dynasty.

Draw the vase you want to make.

Color with Blue oil pastels and paint with white gesso.

Scratch your drawing.

Make out of clay by using the pattern you made and cutting 2 of the shapes out of clay.

Make the sides 2 inch slabs. 

Make a base and join the sides and bottom to one of clay pattern pieces.

Stand up and join the sides and bottom from the outside.

 Scratch in your design.
 Paint with blue glaze.
